Who would have thought that some of the best Latin Funk grooves came out of Belgium?

Well this album’s a fine example of traditional music crossing continents.

The main driver behind this new style was Nico Gomez, a Dutch born musician who immigrated to Belgium in the mid 1940s. Gomez championed this amped-up, drum-infused Latin Afro Funk across many various Belgium based groups such as Nico Gomez and his Afro Percussion Inc, El Chicles and Chicken Curry along with Chakachas and this fantastic release.

Jungle Fever has an energy like no other, with bongo-laced tracks throughout and a constant back beat that’s been sampled by many big name Hip Hop artists like Public Enemy and 2 live Crew.

All releases associated with Nico Gomez have been staples in Dj sets since the early 90s.
